Very interesting. I've never seen a cop here (U.S.) sitting down next to someone like that. Even if they're not actively doing something I guess they're supposed to look like they're doing something! I wonder if an aspect of this is that they want to create a barrier between their position and the public, a distinction to elevate their authority perhaps?
