Sheep Grazing....

While on a weekend drive to near by Hesarghatta lake some 40 kms away from the city, clicked this snap of 'sheep grazing' by a localite...

The Sheep and goat breeding is a big rural activity for living.. Sheep and goats are important species of livestock for India. They contribute greatly to the agrarian economy, especially in areas where crop and dairy farming are not economical, and play an important role in the livelihood of a large proportion of small and marginal farmers and landless labourers.

The livestock is maintained primarily on grazing and some supplementary feed like occasional groundnut or horse gram hulls feeds. Most grazing takes place in harvested fields or in forest areas, along roadsides, and on hill slopes. They are grazed eight hours a day; except in summer, grazing is avoided in very early hours. I like this photo, the slow pace, the warmth, the sounds... all so unlike a daily scene where I'm from. Thanks for sharing.

When we were travelling in the North, the local driver told us that the sheep and goat herders were some of the richest people around!
